Workshops gauge level of support required by municipalities & industry professionals to adopt new building codes
Abu Dhabi, February 16, 2010: The Department of Municipal Affairs is conducting workshops with municipalities and industry professionals to provide safer, secure, cost effective and longer lasting buildings across the emirate of Abu Dhabi. Working in line with international best practice principles, the workshops will identify the level of support required by the stakeholders in order to streamline the timing and implementation of the new codes. Stakeholder roles and responsibilities are also being mapped at these workshops.

“We are committed to ensuring smooth transition of the new Abu Dhabi Building Codes while supporting the municipalities and industry professionals via training and consultation support. We are working with all stakeholders to identify their roles and responsibilities in adopting and implementing the new codes,” says H.E. Rashid Al Hajeri, Chairman of Department of Municipal Affairs and Chairman of the Building Codes Higher Council.
Workshops are being held at Beach Rotana in Abu Dhabi with consultants, municipalities and other industry professionals. A survey is in progress to identify the kind of support that may be needed to ensure smooth transition into the new codes.
“With the survey results, we will be able to outline the kind of training workshops and guidance that will be required before the launch of the new codes. Our aim is to provide safer and better buildings in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. We will take all measures to ensure adoption and compliance of the new codes,” concluded Al Hajeri.
